Namco and Capcom working on Tekken vs Street Fighter
With E3 fever picking up, we’re already starting to hear some amazing leaks about new announcements. Here’s another one to chew on: A reliable source has indicated that Namco and Capcom are working together on a Tekken vs Street Fighter game. Even better: It could be announced as soon as E3.
This isn’t the first time that Namco and Capcom have collaborated. In the past, they worked on Namco X Capcom, which was an action RPG game released on the PS2.
It’s only natural that these two powerhouse developers of the best fighting game series are finally making the ultimate fighting game. Both companies in recent years have really gone out of their way to cater to fans of this genre. Namco threw some extra Star Wars characters into Soul Calibur, and Capcom of course has been doing big crossovers for sometime now. They recently announced a new Marvel vs Capcom game in the works as well.
Funny, it was only a couple of weeks ago that we were basking in the awesomeness of Tatsunoko vs Capcom, and speculating on what great VS concept Capcom should tackle next for a fighting game. Ironically enough, our wishlist was half done in jest because our heads would have exploded had any of them came true. I guess I need to prepare for my head to explode now.
We’ll follow up with both companies on Monday to see if they have any comments on the game. I’m sure there are a ton of questions gamers are dying to know, with the main one being, “Will the game play more like Tekken or more like Street Fighter?”

only thing that could have been better IMO is Konami v. Capcom. This is gonna be sweet if it plays more like SF games.

I’m amazed and excited if this is true. Question though, AFAIK, there are only a few long range attacks from Tekken. Most of em’ are close combat.. Wonder how that will turn out?

If they were to do this I assume it would be in 3D since CAPCOM has 3D models now ever since SFIV. NAMCO has never been about fighting strictly on a 2D plane, whereas CAPCOM have made games in the past that allow you to move in 3D somewhat (such as rival schools) so I’d guess they’d lean more in that direction.
The question then would be is it mostly 2D with a little 3D directional movement option? And how will they make projectiles mesh with the largely projectileless Tekken games. Though there are the devil eye lasers in Tekken, and in the Soul Calibur Series Darth Vader, Spawn, and Link all had projectiles of sorts.
Awesome news. Too bad it isnt Capcom vs. Namco as a whole though. That way wed get Soul Calibur, Xenosaga, and Pacman as well. And of course all the awesome Capcom series.
This is going to lead to changes to the Tekken characters so that they have “super attacks” (hadouken, etc) like the Street Fighter characters. I can’t see how they would balance it any other way. This is going to lead to one weird game, but I can’t wait to see what weird attacks they are going to give the Tekken crowd.
Woah, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, and now this! Make it happen Namco and Capcom! This would be amazing.. Think of the possible matchups… Mishima vs Akuma, King vs. Zangief, Law vs. Fei Long, Jin vs. Ryu..

Whether this will be developed by Namco or Capcom, I could see this as the Capcom fighters winning unfairly. Half those players have Hadoukens and other similarly-named projectiles that can spawn cheap online players from spamming those moves. The Tekken fighters who go up-close-and-personal won’t have a chance!!
I’m excited about this, but….Tekken and Street Fighter play SO differently. I’d love to know how this works out if it’s true.
Over the last few years I’ve become more and more interested in Tekken than Street Fighter, so something like this seems pretty awesome.
I’m a bit more excited to hear about this than I was about MvC3 because I don’t know what to expect.

Im excited because I love the Tekken series (especially Tekken Tag)
and I’ve put my fair share of time into the SF series, but the moves are really different from each other.
Tekken had a LP, RP, LK, RK layout with virtually no long range attacks where SF has a LP, MP, HP / LK, MK, HK layout with almost all characters having a long range attack.
I want this to be good, i really do. Hoping for the best on this one.

Since the guest characters of street fighter x tekken are guys, Tekken x street fighter should be the gals. For the namco side Talim(soul caliber) and miru(pac & pal)should join the cast. As for capcom clair(resident evil code:Veronica) and Lilith(darkstalkers) we should all start a petition to these companies so they could let them become guest. Also since both games had fun mini games. There should be a mini game. I was thinking of them having 5 of them. The return of street fighters car crusher and barrel breaker, the return of tekken bowl and volleyball. And a cross version of a shooter where the you have a minute to go around the arena and shoot the opponents. If anyone thinks these are smart ideas then we should tell the companies about this!!!!!!! Thnx
