Earthbound sequel Mother 4 is in development…but from an unlikely source
The creator’s of Nintendo’s cult classic Earthbound love to tease their fans. After millions of fans yearned for a sequel to the sequel, the game finally received another entry (called Mother 3) more than ten years later…in Japan only. However, the fourth title in the series is coming sooner than you think, courtesy of a small group of inspired fans.
The next chapter of the Earthbound series has merely been a pipe dream for most people, but Chaisu and his crew of programmers at Azure Studios have taken up the cause. As an unofficial sequel to the series, Mother 4 follows the adventures of Chase when something strange goes on in his town. Sound familiar?
The developers have made sure to put all of the touches fans of the series love, including PSI powers, a unique battle system, and a completely original soundtrack. The game shares some of the same templates as the GameBoy Advance predecessor Mother 3, but there is also some original sprite work for everything from the characters to the enemies.
The game has the support of the community as well. Their official Facebook fanpage has more than 1,000 fans, and a mailbag on their site answers any questions fans have for their project.
So when can you play this masterpiece? A date hasn’t been determined, but you can be sure that it will be released on the PC for free…in English. Hallelujah! Besides, if you are an Earthbound fan, you got use to waiting for an eternity. So wait some more.

Thank you God! And I’m not speaking vainly. I’ve seriously prayed about getting an Earthbound sequel here in the states for a very long time. I can’t wait to play this even though it’s unofficial. Maybe fan support for this will show the devs and Nintendo that there’s a big market for it, and finally give Earthbound a true sequel for us.

Awesome! This just shows that when fans support classic games sometimes great things can happen. I also recommend everyone check out streets of rage remake on bombergames.net. It’s a great remake of the Streets of Rage series.
I don’t even like the Mother series but this is a real cool project.

played the ROM, it’s indeed great. but 1000 fans? That’s a small number!
Question, do they have blessing to create the game? How are we so sure they won’t receive a cease and desist order when they’re 99% done?
