The creator’s of Nintendo’s cult classic Earthbound love to tease their fans. After millions of fans yearned for a sequel to the sequel, the game finally received another entry (called Mother 3) more than ten years later…in Japan only. However, the fourth title in the series is coming sooner than you think, courtesy of a small group of inspired fans.
The next chapter of the Earthbound series has merely been a pipe dream for most people, but Chaisu and his crew of programmers at Azure Studios have taken up the cause. As an unofficial sequel to the series, Mother 4 follows the adventures of Chase when something strange goes on in his town. Sound familiar?
The developers have made sure to put all of the touches fans of the series love, including PSI powers, a unique battle system, and a completely original soundtrack. The game shares some of the same templates as the GameBoy Advance predecessor Mother 3, but there is also some original sprite work for everything from the characters to the enemies.
The game has the support of the community as well. Their official Facebook fanpagehas more than 1,000 fans, and a mailbag on their site answers any questions fans have for their project.
So when can you play this masterpiece? A date hasn’t been determined, but you can be sure that it will be released on the PC for free…in English. Hallelujah! Besides, if you are an Earthbound fan, you got use to waiting for an eternity. So wait some more.
